In einer Urkunde des Kaisers OTTO II: vom 22. September 980, wird der Name "Laon" erwähnt. 1980 gab es darum die 1000 Jahrfeier.

2007 wird 100 Jahre Stadtrechte gefeiert.

At the 22. September 980 in a document of the emperor OTTO II. is written the name "Laon" the first time. 1980 we have had the 1000 years festival.

Der 1. Mai 1907 leitete die Rathaus-Geschichte ein.
Am 28. November 1924 war die feierliche Einweihung des ersten Rathauses.
Am 9. Juni 1977 wurde das heutige Rathaus eingeweiht.

Das Rathaus ist vor allem ein Haus für den Bürger. Hier bekommt er Informationen, Rat und Hilfe in allen Fragen öffentlicher Belange.
Das Rathaus ist aber auch ein Ort für kulturelle Veranstaltungen. So wurde der Ratssaal akustisch besonders auf Sprache und Musik abgestimmt.

On the 1st May 1907 was the start of the actual history of the Town Hall.
On the 28th November 1924 that the first Town Hall of the town Lohne was inaugurated.
On the 9th June 1977 the second, the Town Hall of today was inaugurated.

The Town Hall is above all a place of meeting for the residents of the town Lohne.
The Town Hall is also a forum for cultural events. Tremendous care has been taken with the acoustics of the Council Hall to accommodate both language and music.

Lohne ist engagiert: Die Kirchen und Behörden kümmern sich im kooperativen Miteinander intensiv um das Wohl der Menschen. Sichtbares Zeichen dafür sind vor allem das neue Altenwohnheim - inmitten in der Stadt - und das moderne Schwerpunktkrankenhaus.

Lohne is a town committed to its community. The churches and authorities cooperate closely to care for it. Visible indication of this is given by the new senior citizens`apartment block - right in the middle of town - and the modern hospital with several recognized specialist departments.

Die Wassermühle, die sog. Pastoratsmühle.
In dieser renovierten Mühle finden regelmäßig Ausstellungen von Bildern statt.
In dieser Gegend hier gab es viele Wind- und Wassermühlen. Erst die Umstellung auf Motorbetrieb hat diese altehrwürdigen technischen Kulturdenkmale verfallen und verschwinden lassen.

The watermill, called Pastoratsmühle.
In this renovated mill are taking place exhibitions of picture-galleries.
In this area we have had many wind- and watermills. With the motorization the old tradional monuments broke down.

Die ehemalige, von Wassergraben geschützte Burg aus dem Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts ist ein historisches Denkmal. Das auf einer Grundmauer von Findlingen aus Fachwerk wohlproportionierte Wohnhaus stammt aus dem Jahre 1780. Der Turm stürzte im Anfang des vorigen Jahrhunderts ein.

This old water-bound Castle from the end of the 15th century a monument of history. The castle is build on erratic blocks and the house is from the year 1780. The tower broke down in the last century.

Lohne ist sportlich: Die hervorragende Ausstattung mit Sportstätten hat unsere Stadt den Ruf einer "Sportstadt" eingetragen, die immer häufiger zum Austragungsort bedeutender Veranstaltungen wird.

Lohne is sport-oriented. The first-class sports facilities have given our town the reputation of a "sporting town", so that it is increasingly becoming the venue of important sporting events and meetings.

Im 19. Jahrh. begann eine lebhafte Entwicklung von einer bis dahin rein landwirtschaftlichen geprägten Arbeitswelt zur industriellen Produktionen, wie Schreibfedern für ganz Europa, Pinselherstellung, Wein- + Getränkekorken und später kunststoffverabeitende Firmen, weiter dann Rohrbogen- , Maschinenbaufirmen und Großschlachtereien.
Das Bild zeigt eine Maschine aus meiner Kunststoffproduktion meines früheren Berufslebens.

In the 19. century started a new development. Before only farmers and now more industry for productions like first for pens for whole Europe, brushes, corks and later for plastics, moreover tubes, machines and big butcher´s shops.
The foto shows one of the machine in my plastic-production. In my working time we have produced many of these parts "Labello".

Unsere Stadt ist umgeben von zahlreichen Grünflächen. In einem Landstrich mit sanften Höhen und ausgedehnten Niederungen, geprägt von der über tausendjährigen Entwicklung des Bauerntums. Altehrwürdige Bauernhäuser rund um und in Lohne zeugen davon.

There is so much greenery in and around Lohne. For thousands of years this has been farmers´country, a stretch of land with gentle hills and wide valleys, as witnessed by the venerable farmsteads in Lohne and its surroundings.

Unser Turm mit der Inschrift: "Stadt und Land, Hand in Hand". 1907 als Sinnbild für die Einheit des Lohner Gemeinwesens am höchsten Punkt errichtet. Damals war nämlich nur der Kern von Lohne zur Stadt erhoben worden, während die ländlichen Orte vorerst für sich blieben. Diese "Regel" wurde nur nie praktiziert.

The inscription in our tower: "Town and Land, Hand in Hand". 1907 the tower was build on the highest point. The tower should say: we are all togethter, the people in the town and the people as a farmer. The gouverment has said: only the centre is the town Lohne.

In der Mitte des Zentrums von Lohne steht die Kirche: S. Gertrud. Sämtliche Straßen führen auf diese Kirche zu.

In the middle of the centre of Lohne is the church "St. Gertrud". All the streets are going to this church.
